Announcement for 2010 NTDTV’s Global Competition Series

New York-based independent Chinese language TV station New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) is dedicated to the revival of China’s authentic cultural heritage. China’s traditional values of personal cultivation, ethical behavior, and respect for the Heavens are manifested through various expressions that range from the common place, such as food and clothing, to the sublime, such as dance, song, music, and art. In its Global Competition Series, NTDTV creates a platform for artists of Chinese descent to congregate from around the world, to demonstrate their command of authentic, classical art forms, and to provide mutual inspiration. Competition Details


The 3rd Global Han Couture Design Competition will be held on October 16, 2010 in New York City. Fashion experts in the fashion capital of the world will witness the beauty and grace of traditional Han Couture in a runway show of winning designs.

The Competition is aimed at bringing out designs that are inspired by the depth and inner meaning of 5,000 years of Chinese apparel. It builds upon the ancient Chinese codes of conduct of benevolence, righteousness, courteousness, wisdom and loyalty, as well as the values of kindness and beauty, to reclaim the traditional Chinese apparel and etiquette culture.

The Han Couture Design does not simply copy the ancient Chinese clothing and accessories, but to design graceful, luxurious, elegant and beautiful fine clothing that can exhibit female gentleness and male strength, in reference to Tang, Song and Ming dynasty’s characteristics. Through a selective use of materials, color, accessories and techniques, the designs will allow modern people to appreciate the ancient’s demeanor. Top prize for the competition is US$10,000. Deadline for design submission is May 15, 2010.

The 3rd Chinese International Violin Competition will be held on October 28-31, 2010 in New York City. Contestants will perform selected works by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach or Paganini, plus a work commissioned specifically for this competition -- "Dedu" Theme and Variations for Violin.

All violinists of Chinese descent with professional-level performing skills may qualify for the competition, provided they are at least 16 years of age. Top prize for the competition includes US$5,000 and a hand-made violin from a renowned Asian luthier.

The 4th Chinese International Vocal Competition will allow Chinese vocalists to showcase their talent through Chinese classic songs, theme songs from TV drama and movies, arias and artistic songs. With preliminaries held in Asia and North America, the competition finals will be held on August 20-22, 2010 in New York City.
This is the only Bel Canto Vocal Competition with Chinese songs. The pronunciation of Chinese words in Bel Canto singing makes it one of the most challenging vocal competitions in the world. The competition consists of female and male divisions and is open to all vocalists of Chinese descent with professional performing skills. Top prize for the competition is US$10,000.

The 4th International Classical Chinese Dance Competition will be held on September 9-12, 2010 in New York City. With a mission to restore the beauty and integrity of classical Chinese dance, the competition will present the best aspect of traditional Chinese culture on stage, and launch a new era in dance. The competition consists of four divisions: Junior (age 13 – 17) Female, Junior Male, Adult (age 18 – 40) Female, and Adult Male. Top prize for the competition is US$10,000.

The 3rd International Chinese Culinary Competition will be held in September, 2010 in New York City. The Competition aims to revive traditional Chinese culinary techniques and methods, promote authentic Chinese culinary philosophy, and promote the exquisite traditional Chinese culinary culture in five major regional categories: Cantonese, Huaiyang, Szechuan, Shandong, and Northeastern Chinese. 

Competition finals will take place in an open-air arena that recreates the street scene of Tang Dynasty’s capital of Chang-An. It promises to be an instant destination event for New York City. Top prize for the competition is US$10,000.

The 3rd Chinese International Photography Competition has the mission to increase the sharing of cultural arts globally among Chinese who love photography, to uphold traditional Chinese arts philosophy, to promote artistic works portraying intrinsic reality with implications of compassion, gracefulness, brightness and righteousness. Contestants can enter works in three categories: News and Global Events, Society and Humanity, Nature and Landscapes. Deadline for entry submission is August 31, 2010. Awards will be announced on the competition website in October, 2010. Finalist entries will be featured in a gallery exhibit open to the general public in New York City from November 24, 2010 to December 24, 2010. Top prize for the competition is US$5,000.
